Yeast ester hits you first - fruity and earthy, with an almost but not quite artificial vibe. Yeast esters are funky like that. A deep brown appearance, black in the center but tinging lighter at the edges. Bitter, dry, but still full bodied. A bit of chocolate, a bit of toast, a bit of coffee, and a hint of char from the roasted malt, backed up by just a little malt sweetness.
